Nonprofit Finance 202 - Spring 2019

So you’ve formed your nonprofit, and have started to build its financial foundation. You’re using accounting software and producing monthly financial reports. But how does the organization use this information to make informed decisions? What about developing a budget and managing cash flow? And how does the organization know where it is heading – or if there are financial warning signs it should be aware of? This workshop offers training and resources to help an organization manage its nonprofit "double bottom line" - its mission and its margin - and provide tools to make more informed decisions to impact its communities.

Nonprofit Finance 202 is a new three-hour, interactive session that covers the following topics:

  • Tools to help analyze the Key Financial Management Reports, including the
    • Statement of Financial Position (“Balance Sheet”)
    • Statement of Financial Activities (“Income Statement” or “P & L”)
    • Statement of Cash Flow
  • Budgeting and cash flow forecasting – where do we start – what's the difference - and which do we need?
  • Reserves:  How do we establish – and build – a reserve?
  • Dashboards:  What is a dashboard - and how will it help guide the organization?
  • Financial Oversight Tools – what risks are out there and what processes or practices do we need to help protect the organization’s assets?

This workshop is an extension of the "Nonprofit Finance 101" session of NEW's Nonprofit Start Up Series. Other sessions in the Start Up series include:

Sign up for the sessions individually for $60 each or purchase the entire series HERE for $200.

We highly encourage individuals and organizations to sign up for the series as a whole for two main reasons:

  1. Having a full picture of the efforts starting a nonprofit organization entails ensures that the proper resources are devoted to these important preliminary steps.
  2. Engaging with other individuals looking to start a nonprofit creates a community of people that can look to one another for guidance, support, connections, and more!
